Knit Patterns
Our recent hiking trip took us along the SW Coastal Pathway in Cornwall, Southern England. We were challenged by the rugged trails with steep ascents and descents but rewarded by the natural beauty of the coastal cliffs, the pounding waves and secluded sandy coves.
In several museums along the way I found historic record of knitting patterns. These Guernsey or Gansey patterns were designed by fishermen's wives and hand knit into rugged water resistant sweaters for their husbands to wear while out at sea. Distinctive patterns were handed down and are still identified by the family design.
INSPIRATION comes when you least expect it ~ and now I'm incorporating one of these unique designs into the "Gansey" Baby Sweaters by L'Agneau.
